Ottoman Empire Bag, circa 1870s

$375

Museum worthy Ottoman Empire textile. Stunning and rare in such great condition. Made from silk and actual silver threadings, highly detailed embroidery. This embroidery is the distinctive style of the Ottoman Empire. Embroidering with metal thread required mastery beyond our imagination. Easy to break, this was done by the most masterful of textile makers most likely in Istanbul.

One side of the bag shows a mosque, you can see the double doors, dome, topped with a crescent, and two minarets. The opposite side is a tugrah and crescents, most likely Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1842-1918).

Exquisitely made, this money purse is threaded with actual silver bullion thread- miraculously intact -  with a silk background in a soft ivory coloring.

Fully lined and intact. Two hand strings.

Full length is 10 inches. Full width is 8 inches.
